The growth in the amount of goods that are made has lead to a huge amount of storage. There are over 5000 container ships currently in operation around the world, with these capable of between 10 and 20,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU). That puts a great amount of pressure on port facilities and on storage space on land. These are expensive vessels to buy and maintain and they make money by being in transit, not waiting to load or unload their cargo. This is what is dealt with by this portion of the patent. Container storage, supplemental to any on land, can be added onto almost any port facility to allow for ships to be unloaded faster and on their way quicker.
The use of the CSaW System also can have containers loaded directly into it making ports even quicker in operation. It can also be used in isolation of other port facilities, so is capable of making container delivery possible where it currently can't occur.
It also allows the connection of FUP upto a county's infrastructure without impeding the existing port facilities. The FUP can be positioned where is appropriate and the containers and goods delivered to storage positions near the coast of the country and there held until the onwards transit is ready thereby reducing waste in time.
